Master Bathroom Designs in 2017

DARK STAIN

Sheathed from dark-stained walnut with simple cabinetry, the master bathroom has the look of a rustic retreat in this Alabama home, designed by Susan Ferrier.

CLAW-FOOT TUB

At a Palm Beach house, the master bathroom walls have been painted a custom watery blue. Homeowner Liza Pulitzer Calhoun chose the cast-iron claw-foot bathtub because it feels "so favorable."

TUBSIDE FIREPLACE

Given that the Pacific Ocean views, Ohara Davies-Gaetano chose to bring a sunken tub with this windowed alcove, and a cozy fireplace. Now the blessed owners can participate in flickering flames and waves that are soothing.

OLD-WORLD WAINSCOTING

Back at the 18th-century when this Massachusetts farmhouse was constructed, there wasn't any such thing as a master bath. So architect Michael T. Gray and interior designer Hattie Holland carved one from a hallway and extra wainscoting and window casings to create a feeling of yesteryear.

DUELING SINKS

In a California beach bungalow designed by Chad Eisner, symmetrical sinks flank the sides of the master bathroom.

GRAY TONES

"I love a glamorous bathroom," designer Marshall Watson says. The master bath of into a Florida home turned with windows, a tub, custom vanity, and crystal chandelier.

CHOCOLATE WALLS

A floating bathtub and brown grasscloth walls instantly cozy up a Pennsylvania farmhouse's master bath. Add a couple of towels and scented bath salts for calm.

In an open-air Kenya home, designer Suzanne Kasler insisted on double sinks, a transatlantic amenity she understood the American owners would miss.

BEAUTIFUL BUILT-INS

"it is a little bathroom, and so I needed everything built-in, precise, and neat, " says designer Barbara Westbrook of this Atlanta cabin. "You wouldn't believe the number of individuals who pass through it and say they're dying to get inside that bathtub."
